How we make money
The honest version, because storm anxiety is exactly what less scrupulous sites monetize.
The short answer
Some links on this site are affiliate links. If a result points you to something useful (storm supplies, a battery power station matched to your sizing tier, a flood or home insurance review) and you use our link to buy or request a quote, the company pays us a commission or referral fee. It costs you nothing extra. That's the entire business model: no subscriptions, no selling your information, no ads on tool pages.
What that means in practice
- The readiness check is free and stays free. Your score appears without giving an email, a phone number, or a payment method. The 48-Hour Checklist is free, printable, and always will be, links or no links.
- Recommendations can't be bought. The score is rule-based: the same answers produce the same result for every person, every time. No partner can pay to change which guidance appears. (More on this on How our recommendations work.)
- Honesty outranks the payout. When the honest answer is "you probably don't need the biggest generator" or "this is a free fix", the result says so, even though the expensive purchase would pay us more.
- We never monetize urgency. When you tell the check a storm is coming, the result gets shorter and more practical, not more commercial. Fear is not a sales channel here.
- We label it. Every page with affiliate links carries a disclosure, and result pages repeat it right above the links themselves.
Who our partners are today
Named plainly, because "some links" is an easy phrase to hide behind. As of July 2026:
Every partner, current and future, operates under the same rules: they never see or influence the scoring, the guidance text is identical with or without them, and the pages you would use with a storm inbound are never monetized. When this list changes, this page changes the same day.
What we don't do
- We don't require an account or an email to use any of the tools.
- We don't run display ads on tool pages.
- We don't accept payment for placement in our guidance or comparisons.
- We don't recommend insurance coverage, limits, or carriers; that stays with your agent or a licensed professional.
Why we think this is fair
People searching for hurricane prep in a nervous week get bombarded by countdown clocks and worst-case photography. We'd rather hand you the checklist first, calmly and free, and earn a commission only when a product or service is genuinely the right next step for a gap you actually have. You decide that, not us.
