Why claim history matters more than you might think
Flood insurance claim data is not a crystal ball. But it is a record. When dozens of homes in your ZIP code filed claims in the past five or ten years, that is evidence that water moved through those streets in ways that caught homeowners off guard.
The data does two things for you. First, it tells you whether your neighborhood has experienced the kind of rain or storm surge that triggers claims (not theoretical risk, but actual water).
